Every winter the humpbacks come from Antarctica to the warm, clear water of Tonga to give birth, and it is one of the few places on earth where you may slip into the sea beside them. Six days with a licensed whale guide, a marine biologist and a boat of your own, from a house on its own island in the Vavaʻu group. Mothers rest a few metres below you with their calves. Males sing so loudly you feel it in your chest.
